- 3 ripe avocados, peeled, seed removed
- ½ medium red onion, roughly chopped
- 2 medium jalapeño peppers, roughly chopped
- 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice (about 1 ½ medium limes)
- 3-5 tablespoons water
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Peel and pit the avocados, roughly chop the red onion and jalapeño peppers, mince the garlic, and chop the fresh cilantro.
- Combine in Blender or Food Processor: Place the avocados, red onion, jalapeños, lime juice, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, kosher salt, black pepper, and 3 tablespoons of water into a blender or food processor.
- Blend to Desired Consistency: Blend the mixture until smooth and creamy, adding additional water as needed (up to 5 tablespoons) to reach your preferred consistency.
- Fold in Cilantro: Transfer the blended dip to a bowl and gently fold in the chopped fresh cilantro to preserve its bright flavor.
- Adjust Seasoning and Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, fresh veggies, or as a topping for your favorite dishes.
Notes
- For a milder dip, remove the seeds from jalapeños before blending.
- This dip is best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day to prevent browning.
- If storing, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the dip to minimize oxidation.
- Add a pinch of cumin or smoked paprika for extra smoky flavor.
- Use fresh lime juice for the best tangy taste; bottled lime juice may alter the flavor.
