Description

This Spicy Avocado Dip combines creamy ripe avocados with zesty lime juice and a fiery kick from jalapeños and red pepper flakes. Perfect as a quick and flavorful appetizer or snack, this dip is fresh, vibrant, and ready in just five minutes. It’s ideal for serving with chips, veggies, or as a complement to your favorite Mexican dishes.

Ingredients

Scale

Avocado Dip

  • 3 ripe avocados, peeled, seed removed
  • ½ medium red onion, roughly chopped
  • 2 medium jalapeño peppers, roughly chopped
  • 3 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice (about 1 ½ medium limes)
  • 3-5 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Peel and pit the avocados, roughly chop the red onion and jalapeño peppers, mince the garlic, and chop the fresh cilantro.
  2. Combine in Blender or Food Processor: Place the avocados, red onion, jalapeños, lime juice, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, kosher salt, black pepper, and 3 tablespoons of water into a blender or food processor.
  3. Blend to Desired Consistency: Blend the mixture until smooth and creamy, adding additional water as needed (up to 5 tablespoons) to reach your preferred consistency.
  4. Fold in Cilantro: Transfer the blended dip to a bowl and gently fold in the chopped fresh cilantro to preserve its bright flavor.
  5. Adjust Seasoning and Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Serve immediately with tortilla chips, fresh veggies, or as a topping for your favorite dishes.

Notes

  • For a milder dip, remove the seeds from jalapeños before blending.
  • This dip is best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 day to prevent browning.
  • If storing, press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the dip to minimize oxidation.
  • Add a pinch of cumin or smoked paprika for extra smoky flavor.
  • Use fresh lime juice for the best tangy taste; bottled lime juice may alter the flavor.
