Description
Savory Kafta Kebabs are a quick and flavorful Middle Eastern grilled delight made with lean ground beef mixed with fresh herbs and aromatic spices. Ready in just 30 minutes, these kebabs are perfect for a satisfying dinner or outdoor cookout.
Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Herbs
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 medium yellow onion (finely chopped)
- 1/2 cup fresh parsley (finely chopped)
Spices and Seasonings
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp seven spice blend
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the aromatics: Begin by finely chopping the quartered onion and fresh parsley. You may use a food processor for a quick and even chop to ensure the herbs and onion distribute well throughout the meat.
- Mix the ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with the chopped onion and parsley mixture. Add salt, black pepper, seven spice blend, and cayenne pepper if using. Use your hands to thoroughly blend all the ingredients until evenly incorporated.
- Shape the kebabs: Mold the seasoned meat mixture onto skewers, pressing firmly and aiming for a thickness of about 1 to 1.5 inches. Make sure the meat is securely attached to the skewers to prevent falling off during grilling.
- Preheat and oil the grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Lightly brush the grill grates with oil to prevent sticking and ensure a nice sear on the kebabs.
- Grill the kebabs: Place the skewers on the hot grill and cook for approximately 4 minutes on each side, turning carefully to get an even char and to cook through. The internal temperature should reach at least 160°F for ground beef.
- Serve: Once grilled to perfection, remove the kebabs from the grill, discard the skewers, and serve immediately while hot for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Seven spice blend typically includes spices like cinnamon, allspice, black pepper, cloves, nutmeg, coriander, and cumin. Adjust the blend to taste if unavailable.
- Cayenne pepper is optional and adds a subtle heat; omit if you prefer a milder flavor.
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat and flare-ups during grilling.
- Ensure skewers are soaked in water for 30 minutes before grilling if using wooden skewers to prevent burning.
- Serve with sides like pita bread, rice, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
