Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 cup red lentils
- 2 cups water
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 carrot, grated
- 1 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Rinse Lentils: Thoroughly rinse 1 cup of red lentils under cold running water to remove any impurities or dirt.
- Cook Lentils: In a pot, combine the rinsed lentils with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the lentils become soft, about 15-20 minutes.
- Drain and Cool: Drain any excess water from the cooked lentils and allow them to cool to room temperature, making them easier to handle.
- Sauté Aromatics: Heat a pan and sauté the finely chopped onion and minced garlic until soft and fragrant, about 4-5 minutes.
- Mix Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the cooled lentils, sautéed onion and garlic, grated carrot, cumin powder, coriander powder, salt, black pepper, chopped parsley, and breadcrumbs. Mix well until the mixture holds together.
- Form Patties: Shape the mixture into evenly sized patties, about 2-3 inches in diameter.
- Fry Patties: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the patties until they are golden brown and crispy on both sides, approximately 3-4 minutes per side.
- Drain Excess Oil: Remove patties from the pan and place them on paper towels to drain any excess oil before serving.
Notes
- Use fresh breadcrumbs for better texture or substitute with panko for extra crispiness.
- To make the patties vegan, ensure breadcrumbs do not contain dairy or eggs.
- These patties can be baked at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes as a healthier alternative to frying.
- Serve with a yogurt or tahini dip to enhance flavor.
- Leftover patties can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 1 month.
