Description

This Korean Beef Bowl is a quick and flavorful weeknight meal inspired by classic Korean bulgogi flavors, made simple and fast using ground beef. The dish combines savory, sweet, and slightly spicy notes in a delicious sauce served over fluffy white rice with fresh toppings.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef

  • 1 lb ground beef (85–90% lean)
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

To Serve

  • 3 cups cooked white rice (or jasmine rice)
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • Sesame seeds
  • Optional: shredded carrots, cucumber, steamed broccoli, fried egg, kimchi

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Drain excess grease if needed to avoid greasiness in the final dish.
  2. Add aromatics: Stir in the minced garlic and grated fresh ginger to the cooked beef. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant, allowing the flavors to infuse into the meat.
  3. Make it saucy: Add the low-sodium soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, crushed red pepper flakes (if using), and black pepper. Simmer the mixture for 2 to 3 minutes until slightly thickened and glossy, ensuring the beef is well-coated with the sauce.
  4. Assemble bowls: Spoon cooked white rice into serving bowls. Top with the flavorful beef mixture and add your desired toppings such as sliced green onions, sesame seeds, shredded carrots, cucumber, steamed broccoli, fried egg, or kimchi for extra texture and taste.

Notes

  • Swap ground beef for ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • Add a splash of rice vinegar to the sauce for brightness and acidity.
  • Want it spicy? Stir in 1–2 teaspoons of gochujang for authentic Korean chili flavor.
  • This dish stores well in the fridge for up to 4 days, making it great for meal prep.
  • For a low-carb version, serve without rice or replace it with cauliflower rice.
  • A more traditional bulgogi flavor can be achieved by using thinly sliced beef with a different marinade.
