Description

Blue Cheese Sauce is a rich, creamy, and flavorful sauce made with heavy cream and tangy blue cheese. This indulgent sauce is perfect for drizzling over steaks, burgers, or crispy fries. With simple ingredients and quick stovetop preparation, it delivers bold, savory flavors to elevate any dish.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Sauce:

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 small shallot, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 1 tablespoon white wine vinegar (optional, for added tang)
  • Salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Sauté the Shallot (Optional): Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped shallot if using, and sauté for 2–3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  2. Add the Cream: Pour in the heavy cream and bring it to a simmer. Stir occasionally and cook for 4–5 minutes until the cream thickens slightly.
  3. Stir in the Blue Cheese: Lower the heat to medium-low and add the crumbled blue cheese. Stir continuously until the cheese melts completely and the sauce achieves a smooth and creamy texture.
  4. Season the Sauce: Taste the sauce and adjust with salt and freshly cracked black pepper as needed. For extra tang, optionally stir in white wine vinegar or a squeeze of lemon juice.
  5. Serve: Remove the sauce from heat and serve immediately. Drizzle over steaks, burgers, fries, or use as a dip.

Notes

  • For a richer sauce, substitute half-and-half for the heavy cream, though the sauce will be less creamy.
  • Add a dash of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to introduce a spicy kick.
  • To thicken the sauce further, simmer it longer or incorporate a cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water).
  • Experiment with different blue cheese varieties like Gorgonzola or Roquefort to create unique flavor profiles.
